It's no secret that most of the nu metal kids of the 90s and 00s moved on to various -core outlets upon the inevitable demise of the genre, be it metalcore, rapcore, deathcore, hardcore. Now imagine blending all those branches, and the seemingly unrelated nu metal sensibilities of the past in one unstable concoction, and you are left with Left To Suffer. Hardly taking a break since their formation in 2019, the Atlanta gang is back with yet another sweaty dose of their signature nu-core fury in their latest EP And Dying Forever.
Think Darko US, Emmure, ten56., but above all, think Left To Suffer. Although there is still work to be done to call them unique, anyone familiar with their recent charge in the scene is fully aware of their uncompromising, right-in-your-face sound. With few releases already behind their back, Left To Suffer have deservedly became a fearsome name in the modern underground, and this new EP is just another confident step towards the top. Raw, brutal, direct, punishing, And Dying Forever easily ranks amongs 2022's unmissable releases.
Ever since they stepped into the scene amidst the peak of the pandemic, Left To Suffer gained public attention with a relentless streak of nu metal-infused deathcore ragers ever. Musical rampage aside, you only need to check the featurings they have done along the way to see exactly where they are placed in the modern heavy music compass. Assembling heroes from the past and present like Will Ramos, CJ McCreery, Ryo Kinoshita, Lochie Keogh, to name a few, speaks volumes and gives Left to Suffer the perfect base to build upon.
And Dying Forever is more of a solo effort, with just 'Fixated' out of the 6 tracks featuring the trap artist Kamiyada+, and making brilliant use of his flow alongside Taylor Barber's signature tirade. A proper self-released DIY effort from a band that still runs an active Bandcamp profile, the EP offers a hefty dose of metalcore passion, deathcore brutality, hardcore honesty, all wrapped with subtle nu metal nuances and influences, and gathered in one cohesive and perfectly balanced modern release.
Left To Suffer and And Dying Forever are one of those bands and EPs that don't need deep analysis and track-by-track dissection. Just hit the play button, get those bangers flowing from the riffy opener 'Rest Your Head', through the chilling 'Overwhelming Power' all the way to the anthemic ending with 'Fatal Attraction', and get your face melted in the process. And Dying Forever might not be the heaviest, original or polished releases this year, but easily wins with its primal rage, uncontainable energy and brutal honesty in a scene heavily saturated with overproduction and overpromotion.
If there were ever any doubts, And Dying Forever proves that Left to Suffer are not an act that can be ignored or underestimated. Steadily building their profile as a uncompromising nu-core act with solid links with established scene legends, this EP is just another step towards their righful place among the top of the modern heavy world, and Im sure whatever and whenever they drop their next album, it will be huge.
