BACKGROUND. Every now and then, we stumble upon unknown rising acts from Europe and beyond, and are left completely speechless. Sure, we all tend to stick to the big names, the bright stars of the scene, the huge personalities that attract the attention, the favourite bands that we have seen grow and mature for years. But then again, discovering that new, previously unheard act and hitting the play button with zero expectations and preconceptions, only to be left stunned and infatuated, this is where the magic happens. And this is what happened here with Neverglow.
BAND. Siren Lake, a true underground hero if we ever saw one. Caught at their very first steps, mainly thanks to the streaming legend Ohrion and the fine gents at the Core Community, we did not hesitate to jump on the hype train for this one, for Siren Lake are a must-check. From the little info that we got, this is Jeroen, a solo multi-instrumentalist, audio producer and singer-songwriter (and dare I say a genius one), from Roterdam, Netherdlands, active since about 2023 and still gathering following, and this is just about everything. The rest is his music, and boy it speaks volumes!
EP. Debut EPs rarely get better than Neverglow. With subtle nods to TDOPOM-era Bad Omens, Sleep Token, Silent Planet, Dayseeker and such, Siren Lake are a force of nature in their own right. Expect massive production and huge hooks, as promised, alongside hauntingly beautiful melodies and intense vocal delivery throughout. Absolute stunner in all its 22 minutes or so, words feeling more and more inadequate to describe it the more you delve deeper into its rich soundscapes, countless layers and intricate arrangements.
SONGS. The lead single 'Neverglow' is just insane, a whirlwind of emotions and ideas, operating masterfully at the cross-section between 'Concrete Jungle', 'Antimatter' and 'Alkaline', or in other words our happy place. The second one 'Hollow Season' follows suit with driven yet gentle verses, grand infectious chorus, and pulsating riffage, echoed across the entire EP. And while the ferocious opener 'Bloodlight' respectfuly channels the primal fury and fatal allure of recent Spiritbox offerings with fresh perspective, 'For Now' elevates the EP into lighter, aethereal alt-rock territories. At the end, the epic 'Less of You' leads the cinematic tale towarda its inevitable yet truly monumental conclusion in 'Swansong'.
FUTURE. At this point, all Siren Lake need is discovery and support to deservedly blow up. The rest - talent, deternination, vision, execution, delivery, is already there at massive proportions. And really, words are inadequate here so go listen to Neverglow, share, subscribe, do whatever but do keep up with Siren Lake's next step.
