Best of 2024: Quarter 3

Slowly but steadily approaching the end of this spectacularly eventful year, and looking back at the past three months, we can say with certainty that the modern metal, rock and alternative scenes did not disappoint with a solid batch of outstanding and unmissable singles, EPs and full album releases. With only few months remaining ahead, lets have one last listen at the past season's finest 20 released that defined Quarter 3:


20. Poppy - 'they're all around us'

The unrivalled queen of maniacal alt-pop and metal ragers, and one of Sumerian Record's brightest active assets, Poppy unleashed her fury on 'they're all around us'.


19. AVRALIZE - 'upside down'


Following the fantastic premiere of their debut LP FREAKS this year, Avralize return with 'upside down' and are quickly becoming the hottest newcomer across the European scene.


18. Void Of Vision - 'Neurotic'

A truly introspective and frenzied effort by Void Of Vision on 'Neurotic' from their distinctively modern, expectedly chaotic and uniquely Australian LP What I'll Leave Behind.


17. Cane Hill - 'Permanence In Sleep'

Continuously shattering the bounderies of the contemporary alternative metalcore scene, Cane Hill dropped another gem 'Permanence In Sleep' ahead of their upcoming record.


16. The Oklahoma Kid - 'Masquarade'

Unmistakably captivating, German heavyhitters The Oklahoma Kid kept rampaging on with 'Masquarade' as the last piece of their fantastic new 6-track Featherminded EP.


15. VOLA - 'Cannibal' (ft. Anders Friden)

Another electrifying single with unique Scandinavian flavour, Danish/Swedish visionaries VOLA recruited the legend Anders Friden himself on the brilliant single 'Cannibal'.


14. Frontieres - 'Out of my Sight'

Meticulously carrying on with their ascend towards the top of the contemporary metal world, Canadian newcomers Frontieres took it to a whole new level on 'Out of my Style'.


13. Fit For A King - 'TECHNIUM' (ft. Landon Tewers from The Plot In You)

A surprising team-up between Fit For A King and The Plot In You's very special Landon Tewers bringing the annihilating and industrialised modern core banger 'TECHNIUM'.


12. Spiritbox - 'Soft Spine'

"You all deserve each other!" never sounded so powerful, courtesy of metal's dearest Spiritbox and their bouncy new single 'Soft Spine' marking a new chapter for the band.


11. thrown - 'EXCESSIVE GUILT'

A full album stream rather, thrown's latest EXCESSIVE GUILT deserves a separate spot as the impecable piece of unapologetic right-in-your-face modern core masterpiece that it is.


10. Future Palace - 'Decarabia'

Ever so reliable and relatable, Future Palace naturally did not disappointed on yet another captivating vibe 'Decarabia' from the hugely anticipated third studio album Distortion.


9. Rising Insane - 'Monster'

One of the hottest German metalcore exports at present, Rising Insane kept channelling their undoubted brilliance into singles like 'Monster' and the outstanding Wildfired LP.


8. Left To Suffer - 'The Medicine' (ft. Lil Lotus & Scarypoolparty)

Easily the most prolific newcore band at present, Left To Suffer gave us a true beauty with their album Leap Of Death and this hauntingly beautiful collab on 'The Medicine'.


7. Windwaker - 'Tabula Rasa'

Aussie hitmakers Windwaker once again stormed our charts with their latest rager 'Tabula Rasa' from their expectedly unique and totally unmissable HYPERVIOLENCE LP.


6. Make Them Suffer - 'Oscillator'

The reinvigorated Make Them Suffer continued treating us with some of the finest modern metalcore anthems like 'Oscillator' and a self-titled LP finally on its way in November.


5. Falling In Reverse - 'Prequel'

Meeting the expected standard of audio-visual mastery, Falling In Reverse finally premiered their full Popular Monster album, with 'Prequel' as its fittingly epic and cinematic intro.


4. Siamese - 'This Is Not A Song'

An unlikely contender for 2024's AOTY, Danish alternative heroes Siamese dropped the absolute gem ELEMENTS with this wild pit-starter 'This Is Not A Song' stealing the show.


3. Annisokay - 'Get Your Sh!t Together'

Never a dull moment when German tastemakers Annisokay are involved, dropping yet another instant modern metalcore classic 'Get Your Sh!t Together'.


2. Kingdom Of Giants - 'Asphalt'

A true sleeping metalcore giant in a league of their own, Kingdom Of Giants made a welcome comeback with the stomping 'Asphalt' taken from their faultless BLEEDING STAR EP.


1. In Hearts Wake - 'The Flood' (ft Winston McCall)

Take the unstoppable force of nature that are In Hearts Wake and blend it with the OG Winston McCall for a thunderous Aussie blast from the bast and staple for the future in the bonecrushing single 'The Flood' from the phenomenal latest LP Incarnation.

With new songs, new album on its way and a tour announcements, presenting that new lead singer and a new drummer, and of course bringing new excitement and arguments, Linkin Park truly are back and this might be greatest news we've had in a decade!
