BACKGROUND. With the blistering first half of 2025 behind us, and the European festival season in full swing under the scorching July sun, it was only natural to take a short break from flashy blockbuster album premieres. Traditionally, this welcome breather never lasts very long, and this time it is up to Texas juggernauts Fit For A King to violently wake us up from this year's Summer hibernation with their fiery new album Lonely God. Already up to their eight official release, the metalcore royalties are bound to dominate Quarter 3 with a milestone LP drop, steadily heading towards another well-deserved universal success and critical acclaim.
BAND. Fit For A King are a safe bet when it comes to high quality contemporary metalcore sound. A prime example of label loyalty with their long-lasting partnership with Solid State Records, their more traditional take on modern metal production and delivery, mixed with a distinctive Southern US flavour, naturally made them a must-watch standout act across the entire heavy scene. Now add in a pretty consistent and focused release output, on top of the unbreakable partnership between Bobby Lynge and Ryan Kirby at the very core of the band, and you are looking at one of the scene's rightful all-time greats.
ALBUM. After seven concise studio albums in twelve years, it is very unlikely that Fit For A King would surprise anyone, even those remotely familiar with their discography, and yet Lonely God does have its twists, and is as expectedly solid as refreshingly engaging. Following the experimental and somewhat divisive The Path (2020) and its more straightforward and predictable successor The Hell We Create (2022), the band revisits both albums for inspiration, but ultimately takes a confident step forward with renewed determination and creativity. And for a first time in a while, Lonely God isn't just a good Fit For A King release, as punching or meaningful as always, it is the band at their most purposeful, driven and immersive form to date.
SONGS. With half of Lonely God already out as teasers, there is little left to imagine or anticipate, but the album tracks do keep up with the energy and tone set in advance. The LP opens up with the familiar 'Begin The Sacrifice' leading to the powerful pit-starting combo of 'The Temple', 'Extinction' and 'No Tomorrow'. A little breather with the festival anthem 'Shelter', and Fit For A King assault the senses with exemplary team-up with Alpha Wolf on 'Monolith'. From there, it is all metalcore hit parade all the way to the other two ferocious collabs that seal the deal at the end - the industrial 2024 single 'TECHNIUM' with The Plot In You, and the relentless banger 'Witness The End' with Chris Motionless.
FUTURE. At this stage, I cannot predict any major shake-ups or sudden changes of direction. Expect big tours, great performance across streams and charts, and probably a return to the studio at some point in the next two years for what would very likely be another hefty dose of driven, well-round metalcore excellence. And you know what, as long as it sounds as authentic and seamless as it does across Lonely God, may Fit For A King's reign continue for many years ahead under the watchful eye of Solid State Records.
