If you a familiar with the magnificent gents in Left To Suffer, then you must be wondering how are they already dropping new music, and a whole 3-track EP Noah at that? It's not like they just released their fantastic sophomore record Feral earlier in May, only to follow their uncompromising EP And Dying Forever that ended as one of my favourite moments of 2022. Moreover, you cannot ignore the fact that Taylor Barber has been killing it with PROJECT: VENGEANCE alongside the deathcore MVPs, whilst also appearing on the latest by Ov Sulfer, Darko US, Sullivan King, The Gloom In The Corner and even Nik Nocturnal...
And yet we have a brand new EP, this time a peculiar collaboration with none other than Judge & Jury, or renowned producer Howard Benson & Three Days Grace's very own Neil Sanderson. The partnership started last year with the release of the standalone single 'Snake' and those of you who were somewhat disappointed that the rager did not make it into Feral's tracklist would be happy to see that the track not only get its deserved official release but also led to two other gems released now as a fresh EP. Much like 'Snake', both the new title track 'Noah' and 'Chemist' are as bouncy, groovy, and chaotic as expected, with a production polish that pushes Left To Suffer into interesting uncharted territories.
At this point in 2023 it is no secret that Left To Suffer are no longer just one of the many promising newcomers at the contemporary metal scene but already a proven heavyhitter playing by their rules. Their primitive blend of modern newcore and old-school nu metal sensibilities have already gathered a loyal fanbase that is only going to get larger and more fierce. Add in an exemplary work ethic and determination to succeed and we are looking at a future arena headliner that is very likely to leave a lasting mark across the scene.
Left To Suffer's collaboration with rock and metal royalties like Benson and Sanderson in Noah reveals a unique side to a band that already has its fair share of memorable qualities. Expectedly, it is slightly more melodic and has a distinctive radio-friendly feel, but at its core maintains the band's signature ferocity. Moreover, we cannot ignore the fact that up to this point Left To Suffer have been entirely self-produced, but Noah offers an interesting glimpse of their unlimited potential should and if they get the right personnel behind them.
Barber reaches new highs here, backed by Left To Suffer's trademarked instrumentation, gravitating between uncontainable fury, brutal honesty and psychotic breakdowns. Stylistically, Noah does not inherit much from Feral or And Dying Forever, and yet from the first seconds of the opening track all the way to the last beat in 'Snake' you know this is Left To Suffer. This in itself is a phenomenal achievement from a band that has been around for all but a few years, and you cannot help but wonder what the future holds for them.
Listening to Noah on repeat leaves no doubts that Left To Suffer is exactly what the metal scene needs right now. Leave their raw and uncompromising music style aside, honest lyricsm and truly admirable work rate and DIY approach, but what really puts Left To Suffer ahead of their contemporaries and would likely be what eventually pushes them into the mainstream, is their will to experiment and risk; all that in a scene that is notoriously conservative and terrified of change, making Left To Suffer all the more exciting.
