BAND. Of all the countless rare gems scattered across the Aussie metal scene, few shine brighter than Melbourne's very own The Gloom In The Corner. A true sonic cabinet of curiosities, supercharged with operatic grandeur, mezmerizing theatricality, captivating lore, and pure deathcore fury, their music is a hugely anticipated treat for anyone familiar with their art. For those new to the show, you are all in for a wild ride with the latest chapter of their post-apocalyptic tale Royal Discordance.

REVIEW. Right from the start it is imperative to mention that TGITC have been backed by SharpTone Records since day one, and this is already a sign of contemporary metal excellence and affinity to all things proggy, djenty and experimental. From there, the fine gents have made a name for themselves as metal's most bizarre writers, masters of complex lyrical narratives, cinamtic instrumentation and whimsical visuals. Royal Discordance is all of that, and then some, a perfect successor to Trinity (2022) and a worthy addition to their already marvelous discography.

SONGS. Royal Discordance starts off with a proper blast with 'The Problem With Appcalyptic Tyranny', setting the mood for the next few chapters until the trinity of the solemn 'Short Range Teleportation' and the tested ragers 'Nope (Hollow Point Elysium)' and 'Angel's Wrath Whiskey' to reach the record's first climax. The second comes with the galopping anthemic 'That's Life (Carry Me Home)' evolving into the thunderous 'Army of Darkness' as an unrivalled highlight. And then it is up to the two-part grand finale 'Love' to seal it off in style.

OVERALL. Actual storytelling focus and character development aside, the record is a must-check journey through TGINT's expansive audio-visual universe. Subjectively, this might be their best effort to date, and the very least it is their most focused and direct. And for the sake of their local scene and our shared musical landscape, may they carry on forward as disarmingly punching and infatuatingly peculiar as always.
